Bandeau top bikinis

There are dozens of styles of bikinis, and in the last couple of decades we have seen more and more variations for the top of the bikini (ranging from a tankini top to a spaghetti strap and more).  The french style known as the “bandeau” is also a popular alternative.  So, what are bandeau tops, where do they originate, and where can you get them?

The simplest explanation of bandeau can be provided by you, if you just want to go to a search engine's image search and type in the phrase “bandeau top bikinis.”  This will allow you to pull up images that show what I'm about to describe.  The bandeau top is a strapless top that is worn around the breasts and (usually) the top of the stomach.  There can be a fastener or it can be made of a tighter elastic material.

Bandeau top bikinis were really introduced in the 1940s, but the style went out in the mid 1950s and then came back in during the 1980s.  They became less popular until recent years, when the bandeau top bikinis designed by major fashion designers put them back into the spotlight.  The bandeau itself, however, made a much longer migration.  The style was worn as far back as the times of ancient Rome.  As a style, it was picked up by the French who used it in a number of different outfits.  It migrated from France to America in the 1900s.

You can find items like this in most swimwear stores, and you can also find a huge selection of bandeau top bikinis online.
