Bathing suits

“Bathing suit” is a term used to describe any type of clothing worn in the water or doing any kind of activity on or near the water. For men in western cultures, g-strings, thongs, briefs, swim trunks, jammers, and board shorts, which are in order from least to most lower body coverage. Women in these areas of the world wear thongs, bikinis, or one-piece swimsuits. In the Muslim world, companies invented a swimsuit for their women that obeys the Islamic rules for female modesty called the burqini. It looks more like a diver’s wetsuit than anything else. These swimsuits cover everything on a woman’s body except for their face. Egyptians use the term “Sharia swimsuit” to describe their brand of full-body swimwear.

Competitive swimmers have their swimsuits specially designed to reduce skin drag and can resemble unitards. There is an endless list of types of swimsuits available on the market as there are of any type of clothing. This gives the wearer of the bathing suit better options to express themselves than they would ever be able to find in a boring t-shirt and jeans. One would think that there’s nothing much to a swimsuit, so why does there need to be a lot of different kinds. Surprisingly, people don’t want to settle for a bathing suit that’s more for form than function. There are people who don’t mind wearing the cloth equivalent of being covered in a glorified trash bag. In a world where people want to look good when they’re out on the water, there are certainly enough options for them to do so.
