One-piece swimwear isn’t common because men are allowed to have their shirts off without anybody saying anything about it. They can wear swimming trunks and people will act as if they’re wearing a shirt as well. Now, if a woman went to the beach wearing a bathing suit bottom and nothing else, mothers would be running away hiding their children’s eyes and cop cars would be circling the block.

As a result, there are fewer options for men to choose from in terms of bathing suits. Men don’t need to wear bathing suit tops, so you aren’t going to find bathing suit tops at the local men’s swimwear store. With the thousands of options available for women’s bathing suit tops, one can only wonder how many fashion opportunities men miss out on. You might think that men aren’t fashion conscious, but that’s far from the truth. Men are discouraged from caring about fashion because they’re supposed to carry on some hyper masculine facade and fashion is something that’s considered the opposite of masculine. You can only do so much with a pair of shorts. There are either solid color shorts or shorts with a vibrant print. It gets boring after awhile.
