Resort wear

Resort wear consists of upscale clothing for the affluent consumer who would like to be comfortable as well as chic whether on the beach or in a Michelin ranked restaurant. Resort wear can range from shorts, skirts, sandals, and the regulatory swimsuit and cover-up to light dinner jackets and evening gowns.

The most consistent and important of all resort wear qualities is that it is light, usually in color and weight. Hot and sometimes humid climates are not conducive to anything dark and heavy which can turn a wonderful day in a gorgeous location into a sticky, sweaty nightmare.

In years past resort wear was constrained to the post holiday season beginning in early December and ending in Mid-March, which coincided, with winter in Europe and North America. It targeted affluent consumers, who spent part of the “season” in warmer climates such as the Caribbean or Mexico. Nowadays resort wear is in use throughout the year as more and more people choose to travel to warm and exotic destinations like Thailand, South America and Dubai year round.

Whether you are going to St. Bart’s or Dubai there are a few resort wear staples that are must haves:

• The Swimsuit – It has to be perfect for YOUR shape and make you look and feel like a million dollars.
• The Cover-up – Definitely a must have so you can grab lunch at the seaside bistro without having to go back to the hotel room to change.
• The perfect dress – This needs make you look beautiful and be effortlessly easy.
• Sandals – Preferably flats. (You don’t want to work too hard)
• Sunglasses – You cannot go anywhere sunny without shades and they have the added benefit of protecting your eyes from harmful UVA and UVB rays.
